We have received a lot questions about how to qualify for The Black and Blue Cup, so here’s how:

• All players must have 15 rounds recorded to their WSGA handicap in the 2024 season by the time of the event.
• Both teams will consist of 16 players that will be broken down into handicap groups. Hayward and Turtleback have agreed that the player handicap breakdown will be as such:
⁃ 5 players with handicaps up to 5, 7 players with handicaps between 5 and 10, and 4 players with handicaps 10+.
• There will be 8 spots that HGC Passholders can secure by placing in our courses’ “major” events.
⁃ Two spots will go to the HGC Passholders that finish with the most money earned in the Hayward Open.
⁃ The Club Champion and the Sr. Club Champion will each earn a spot.
⁃ There will be 3 HGC Passholders from the Bill Rich Memorial Cup that will earn spots.
⁃ The final spot will go to the person who has accumulated the most points from these 3 events and did not secure a spot.
• The final 8 spots will be “Captains’ Picks.” To be eligible for a Captains’ Pick, you must have participated in at least one of these events.

We can’t stress enough that you must be able to play a minimum of 18 holes on Saturday, September 21, and 18 holes on Sunday, September 22, to be eligible to play in The Black & Blue Cup.

This is going to be a great event! If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Golf Professional Mitch Byrd.

Hayward Open Availability

Additionally, to our Passholders and guests, we do have some additional openings for the Hayward Open that we wanted to make everyone aware of.

The Hayward Open Tournament is being held this year on Saturday, June 1st, and Sunday, June 2nd. As usual, this will be a 45-hole event. There is an 18-hole stroke play qualifying round on Saturday, followed by 27 holes on Sunday, with your Saturday score determining if you are in the stroke play or match play brackets. There will be an optional practice round with a giant skins game on Friday, May 31st.

We always want to have a full field for the Open, as it is one of our biggest signature events every year, so if you had been considering joining but thought it was already filled-up, we do have some room for you!
