To All HGC Passholders & Guests,

In the spirit of finding ways to add value for our Passholders and guests without increasing costs, the Hayward Golf Course Board is proud to bring a new Red/Green course to you for play in the 2024 season. The concept is based around the USGA’s “Tee-It-Forward Campaign,” allowing HGC to offer a wide range of total yardages for play.

The new Red/Green tee course is nine Red tees and nine Green tees. The holes that will have a new Green tee are 1, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, & 17. The new Green tee markers will be placed on either the left or right side of the fairway. This new course will be approximately 406 yards shorter than the current Red course. The Golf and Grounds Committees oversaw the creation of the new Red/Green course along with Emilee McCusker and Dave Blake.

The Tee Project last fall included new forward tee boxes for Red tees on holes 4 and 6, reducing the Red yardage on 4 by 75 yards, and 6 by 25 yards. The HGC Board, supported by the Hayward Women’s 18-Hole League, has voted to change the 18th hole to a par 5. The Red tee markers will be moved back to the front of the White tee box and, therefore, the Red course will be 5,080 yards and play to a Par 73.

The WSGA will be rating all our current tees along with the new Red/Green tees in May. The WSGA will be considering these changes, as well as bunker changes. Both the Red and Red/Green tees will be rated for women and men.

Last fall, cold temperatures prevented the planting of grass seed on some forward tee boxes, though the Tee and Bunker Project was completed before winter. As a result, the Front 9 forward boxes will be planted with seed this spring.

To start the 2024 season, both Gold and Red tee markers will be temporarily placed in the beginning of the fairways, the way we did last fall during construction. The back nine tee boxes should be ready for play sooner, and it is our hope that all tee boxes will be ready for play by mid-June.

We hope you enjoy the improvements to the course and take advantage of the yardage alternatives! The opening of the course is almost here, so start swinging those clubs to get in shape and be ready for the fun of playing golf at HGC!

Cheers to a great 2024 golf season!
